My recent trip to LA was absolutely unforgettable, packed with everything from soccer and shopping to mouthwatering vegan meals and scenic beach walks. Here’s a detailed look at how it all unfolded.
Game Day: LAFC vs. Colorado Rapids
It all started with the LAFC vs. Colorado Rapids Leagues Cup game. LAFC is hands down one of my favorite MLS teams, and they didn’t disappoint. The energy at BMO Stadium was electrifying, with die-hard fans filling the stands and the action on the field keeping everyone on edge. If you’re a soccer fan or just love a good sporting event, catching an LAFC game is a must when you’re in town. The stadium atmosphere alone is worth the visit!
Stay in Style: Viceroy Santa Monica
After the game, I reunited with my two best friends, who flew in for the weekend. We stayed at Viceroy Santa Monica, a chic boutique hotel just a block from the beach. Our ocean-view room was simply stunning—the perfect backdrop for a relaxing escape. The hotel exudes luxury but with a laid-back, coastal vibe, which I loved. Pro tip: book an ocean-view room if you can. The sunsets alone are worth it.
On our first night, we dined at Sugar Palm, Viceroy’s in-house restaurant. The ambiance was fantastic—laid-back yet upscale, perfect for unwinding after a busy day. We toasted with champagne and started with their famous Three Dip Trip and AgeDashi Tofu, which were both out of this world. If you’re vegan like me, you’ll be happy to know they offer several plant-based dishes. The pasta dishes were a highlight, even for my non-vegan friends. We all agreed it was the perfect way to kick off the trip.
A Day in Santa Monica: Shopping, Sunsets & Fine Dining
Friday was all about soaking up the best of Santa Monica. We started our day with a shopping spree at the 3rd Street Promenade and Downtown Santa Monica. This outdoor shopping haven is filled with everything from high-end boutiques to quirky local shops. I could have spent hours exploring, but we eventually made our way to the beach for a relaxing stroll by the water. The weather was perfect—sunny but with that cool ocean breeze that makes walking along the shore pure bliss.
As the sun began to set, we decided to capture the moment with a Golden Hour photo shoot—you know, for the memories (and the ‘gram). There’s nothing quite like the soft glow of sunset in LA. We wrapped up the day with a dinner reservation at Boa Steakhouse. I was pleasantly surprised by how many vegan options they offered. As a steakhouse, I wasn’t expecting much, but they definitely catered to plant-based eaters. The ambiance was elegant, and the service was top-notch—a must-visit even if you don’t eat meat!
Malibu Magic: Dinner at Taverna Tony
Saturday was a blend of relaxation and adventure. We kicked things off with a leisurely morning walk along the beach (I can never get enough of Santa Monica’s shoreline), followed by some casual shopping and lattes at one of the many charming cafes in the area. After lunch, we squeezed in a few video shoots before heading out to Malibu for dinner at Taverna Tony.
This iconic Greek restaurant has been a staple in Malibu for over 30 years, and it’s easy to see why. The food was phenomenal, with a wide variety of authentic Greek dishes. It’s a great spot if you’re into celebrity spotting—reservations are a must because it’s always packed. The ambiance is warm and lively, with beautiful Mediterranean décor that transports you straight to the Greek Isles.
Brunch & Biking: 1 Pico at Shutters Hotel
Sunday morning was all about taking it slow. We lounged around the hotel for a bit before heading to brunch at 1 Pico at Shutters Hotel. The setting is gorgeous, with sweeping ocean views, and their brunch menu did not disappoint. They offer several vegan options, which was a pleasant surprise. The combination of delicious food, impeccable service, and stunning views made for a memorable brunch experience.
Afterward, we borrowed the complimentary bikes from Viceroy and rode around the neighborhood, soaking up the California sun. There’s something so freeing about cruising along the beachside streets with the wind in your hair—it’s one of my favorite ways to explore Santa Monica.
We ended our afternoon by the hotel pool, lounging with cocktails and indulging in room service later that night. Sometimes, the best moments are the simplest.
A Foodie’s Paradise in Brentwood
With my two besties headed home, I spent the rest of the week in Brentwood with another dear friend, where we explored even more of LA’s culinary scene. If you’re a vegan (or just love great food), you have to check out these spots:
-
Chaumont Vegan: One of my favorite places for brunch. Their vegan pastries are to die for.
-
Jennifer Pennifer Bakes: Famous for their mini cheesecakes, and yes, they have vegan options!
-
Planta Brentwood: One of the best plant-based restaurants around. You have to try their Torched and Pressed—it’s a game-changer.
-
Brentwood Country Mart: This charming spot is perfect for grabbing a matcha, a bite to eat, or just window shopping. It has a great local vibe.
-
Jon & Vinny’s: A beloved local joint with a happening atmosphere and delicious dishes.
-
Tu Madre Santa Monica: They have a plant-based menu, and everything I tried was fantastic!
A Night at Santa Monica Proper
Thursday night, another girlfriend drove up from San Diego to spend the evening with me. We stayed at Santa Monica Proper. While I didn’t love the location as much as other spots like Hotel Casa Del Mar, Shutters, or Viceroy, I absolutely adored the hotel’s aesthetic. The rooms are spacious and stylish, and their rooftop bar is a hotspot with killer views and delicious cocktails.
That night, we dined at Baltaire, an upscale steakhouse in Brentwood that’s ranked as one of the best in the world. Even though I don’t eat meat, the atmosphere was incredible. The restaurant was packed with people, and the elegant vibe made it one of my favorite dinner spots in LA.
Spa Day & Weekend Wrap-Up
Friday morning was all about relaxation. We treated ourselves to a spa day at Burke Williams—a luxurious spa that offers everything you need to unwind. After a day of pampering, we grabbed a quick, light bite at Veggie Grill before heading back to our hotel to enjoy a laid-back evening.
Saturday was my final shoot of the week, and we rewarded ourselves with nibbles from Chaumont Vegan in Santa Monica. Later that night, we closed out the weekend with another LAFC game at BMO Stadium. LAFC consistently ranks as one of the top teams in MLS, and watching them play is always a treat. The energy, the fans, the skill on the field—it’s an experience I highly recommend.
